Peer Consultation

Peer Consultation

Peer consultation for trauma therapists is a vital component of The Lighthouse's commitment to providing high-quality care and support in our community. We recognize the complexity and emotional challenges that trauma therapy entails and believe that collaborative reflection and learning are essential for enhancing our effectiveness as clinicians.

The primary objective of our peer consultation sessions is to create a safe and confidential space where trauma therapists can openly discuss and process their experiences, cases, and therapeutic approaches. Through these sessions, we aim to achieve the following goals:

Professional Growth

Foster continuous professional development by sharing best practices, evidence-based interventions, and new research findings related to trauma treatment. We encourage open dialogue and constructive feedback to help each therapist expand their knowledge and skillset.

Case Consultation

Offer a platform for therapists to seek guidance and insights on challenging cases or complex trauma presentations. By drawing on the collective expertise of our peers, we aim to enhance treatment strategies and promote better client outcomes.

Self-Care and Resilience

Promote therapist well-being and prevent burnout by encouraging self-care practices and discussing strategies for managing the emotional toll of trauma work. We acknowledge the importance prioritizing self-care and our personal search for daily joy in order to provide the best support to our clients.

Cultural Competence

Explore cultural considerations in trauma therapy, recognizing the diverse backgrounds of our clients and the impact of culture on their healing process. We strive to maintain cultural humility and sensitivity in our therapeutic interactions.  Specific attention is paid to the role institutionalized racism, generational trauma, and religion can impact the many experiences of trauma and numerous challenges faced when seeking recovery.

Ethical Dilemmas

Engage in ethical discussions to navigate potential dilemmas that may arise in trauma therapy. Our peer consultation groups ensure that therapists uphold the highest ethical standards in their practice, placing the welfare of clients at the forefront.

Collaborative Teamwork

Strengthen our collective as a cohesive and supportive team of trauma therapists through the Acadiana region. We believe that collaboration enhances our ability to provide comprehensive and holistic care to our clients.

Reflective Practice

Encourage reflective practice to deepen our understanding of the therapeutic process, identify areas for growth, and celebrate successes. We value self-awareness as a means to continuously improve our therapeutic effectiveness.

Our peer consultation sessions are conducted on a regular basis, creating a consistent and supportive forum for trauma therapists to engage in meaningful discussions. We value the contributions of each member and believe that by sharing our expertise and experiences, we collectively strive to elevate the standard of trauma therapy and make a lasting positive impact on the lives of our clients.
